Google has removed school reviews — here's how to keep your school visible online

As of April 30, 2025, Google has permanently removed all reviews and ratings for K-12 schools from Google Maps and Business Profiles. Schools also won’t be able to receive new reviews moving forward.

Why this matters

For years, reviews have worked as digital word-of-mouth, helping parents understand a school’s environment, values, and community through firsthand experiences. In our own research, we’ve found that reviews are one of the most important tools families rely on when deciding where to enroll.

While Google may no longer be a home for these important insights, that doesn’t mean they’ve lost value — it just means they need a new home.

GreatSchools.org remains a trusted place for reviews

GreatSchools is built specifically for schools and the families searching for them. For more than 20 years, we’ve helped families make informed education decisions by combining robust school data with over 1 million organically sourced ratings and reviews from parents, students, and teachers.

3 steps your school can take right now
  1. Encourage families to leave reviews on GreatSchools
Google reviews may be going away, but families are still searching for insights. Ask current and former parents to share their experiences on GreatSchools.org. These stories help future families feel informed and supported.
  2. Claim your school profile
When a school is claimed, leaders receive notifications of new reviews and can respond directly. This allows your school to thank families, address concerns, and highlight what makes your community special.
  3. Save your existing Google reviews
If your school received positive reviews on Google, back them up before they're gone. With permission, you can feature quotes on your website, in brochures, or across social media channels.
What sets GreatSchools' reviews apart?

We’re not just a review site — we’re a decision-making destination. Each year, millions of families turn to GreatSchools for a complete picture of school quality. With over 150,000 public, private, and charter school profiles and 1 million community-sourced reviews, your presence on our platform has the power to make a real impact.

Google removed school reviews due to a rise in prank and unhelpful submissions, often from students. At GreatSchools, reviews come from parents, students, and teachers who share their experiences voluntarily and without incentives. This helps keep feedback authentic and unbiased. To support quality and relevance, we follow review standards, use moderation tools to flag inappropriate content, and allow users to report reviews for our team to review.

The landscape of online school search is shifting, but the need for trusted, community-driven reviews hasn’t gone away. Families will continue to look for authentic perspectives, and GreatSchools is proud to provide a space where they can do just that.
